About
the Exhibition: Tai

The
works in this exhibition portray tai as the
convergence of two opposing forces or elements. Tai
can be interpreted as the state-of-being. It can be
different states of mind, emotions, physics, relationships,
etc. Tai keeps on changing when the two opposing
elements / forces are in process of mutual promotion
and restraint. The exhibits captured the particular
moments of the ever-changing tai.

black gauze
Inspired
by the architectural principles of classical Suzhou
gardens, the original cozy and open exhibition area
is transformed into an enclosed and private space by
pieces of black gauze, which symbolize the rocks and
trees in classical Chinese ink paintings. The works
can be regarded as the scenery focal points in the gardens.
In traditional practice, visitors of the gardens have
to move along the winding paths between the rocks and
trees to discover the unexpected beautiful scenery spots.
The audience is invited to rearrange the gauze so as
to create a whole new personal perspective. The paintings
of this exhibition are the focal points of those in
a classical Suzhou garden, which lead the audience to
travel through the adventurous quest and search for
their tai.
