Euphen Wong Solo Painting + Installation Exhibition
at Cattle Depot
Local artist Euphen Wong invites interested parties
to join the opening party of her first solo painting+
installation exhibition ¡°tai¡± on coming Saturday (June
11) from 5pm to 7pm at Artist Commune, Cattle Depot
Artists Village.
¡°Tai¡±, the theme of this exhibition, means the state-of-being
resulted from the convergence of two opposing forces
or elements. It can be the different states of mind,
emotions, physics, relationships, etc. ¡°Tai¡± keeps on
changing when the two opposing elements / forces are
in process of mutual promotion and restrain.
Inspired by the architectural principles of classical
Suzhou gardens, the original cozy and open exhibition
area is transformed into an enclosed and private space
by pieces of black gauze, which symbolize the rocks
and trees in classical Chinese ink paintings. And the
works can be regarded as the scenery focal points in
the gardens. The audience is invited to rearrange the
gauze so as to create a whole new personal perspective.
All in all, the paintings of this exhibition like the
focal points of those in a classical Suzhou garden,
which lead the audience to travel through the adventurous
quest and search for their ¡°tai¡±.
The paintings are mostly created under inspirations
from Buddhism and Hong Kong folk culture. The delicate
touches and bold contrast of colors mark the uniqueness
style of Wong¡¯s work.
Wong
was born and raised in Hong Kong. She was twice selected
as recipient of Dr. May-ching Kao Art Scholarship. Graduated
from the Faculty of Accounting & Finance of The
University of Hong Kong, she is now studying architectural
conservation at the same school. Her prolonged training
in classical music and dance are deeply influential
to her painting style.
